City 20 is Your Apocalypse Home

Coming in with a new post-apocalyptic survival title, Untold Games has unleashed the City 20 demo on Steam and the Epic store.

City 20 is a dystopian survival sandbox adventure, set in a world after nuclear Armageddon. You are a stranger wandering in from the irradiated wastes of Chasha. It is unclear what, exactly, Chasha is, but everyone fears it and is consequently wary of you. However, old man Goga takes you in and sets you to work. As long as you can pull your weight, you’ll be just fine.

Mini Review: Demo is delightfully peaceful

On a first look, I half expected to spend most of the time in-game fighting off zombies like in Project Zomboid. Though more realistic, the three-quarters top-down camera angle and the world interaction UI are very similar. City 20 is actually quite peaceful, however. You’re only able to play a few days in the demo, but I spent most of that time introducing myself and running side-quests for the locals. You can gather from the bit of woods nearby, set traps for game, or even hunt if you can figure out how to buy or craft the necessary gear. You have the ability to run around wrecking things, trespassing, stealing, and generally causing trouble, or you can focus on building your relationship and go out drinking with your friends on occasion. The world of City 20 is a true sandbox, and it fully responds to the choices you make.

Stories Yet Untold

While City 20 is Untold Games’ first release on Steam, the developers are not new on the gaming scene. Untold Games creates games for PC, console, and VR with strong storytelling and a deep emotional impact. They also provide support and porting services to independent developers looking to publish their games on other consoles. If you’ve played It Takes Two or Journey to the Savage Planet on the Switch, you have Untold Games to thank.

Despite what seems like a rough start with some of their earlier titles, City 20 looks very promising. Well thought out and dynamic, I hope it launches Untold Games into untold success. Be sure to give the demo a try for yourself before the full release!
