Indie Asylum has announced their newest release by developer Two Tiny Dice. Pyrene, a roguelike deck builder, is coming to a PC near you on September 13th, 2024.
Pyrene is a dark fantasy where you fight to rescue your fellow villagers and rebuild your town after a demonic attack. You begin the game as huntress Atanaïa, who returns to see her village in ruins. You find your mother, Matilda, but the rest of your community has been scattered. By braving the wilderness and fighting back the monsters within it, you can search for them and gather the materials to rebuild your home.
The Heart of the Cards
The core mechanics of Pyrene rely on your deck building abilities and your strategic wits. Each danger zone has enemies and equipment cards from your deck scattered around it. Moving into an enemy card initiates a fight, where damage is dealt based on the amount of health you have. That being said, there’s only so much health to go around. Various herbs and potions help you regain your strength, and the weapon cards you play deal damage without you having to take any yourself. Once you’ve gone through enough cards to find and reach the Votive Altar, the field is cleared and you’re able to move on. You also level up your stats and get a relic or choice of card for your deck.
Most of what you gain in the wilderness is reset after every expedition, but your village offers you permanent buffs. Rebuild your town to get talismans that affect your cards, a new luck stat, new biomes to explore, and more. The rescued villagers will also return here, most of whom you can switch out to play as in future expeditions.

While there’s still a little while to wait, the Pyrene demo is available now on Steam. Feel free to check it out and see if you have what it takes to defeat Pyrene.
