Find peace and harmony in the beautiful Japanese countryside when you play SunnySide. A RainyGames title published through Merge Games (now Maximum Entertainment), SunnySide has published a massive update introducing Sandbox Mode!

The game is a casual JRPG style farming sim, set in the titular town of SunnySide. This aging coastal town needs new blood to inject life back into its economy and community. Modernize your farming experience, decorate your home in chic styles, and explore a widely branching tree of customizable skills. There’s a wide-ranging cast of characters to befriend and romance, and a number of mysteries to uncover with your amnesiac survey drone.

SunnySide represents a major overhaul of the farm sim genre. There are no watering cans, shipping containers, maker machines, or hot bars you normally associate with this style of game. With a focus on technological advancement, SunnySide brings the typical farming sim into the modern age and a cyberpunk future you can visualize yourself in. 

A Sandbox Player’s Dream

Sandbox mode brings the customization in SunnySide to even greater heights. Skip all of the introductory cutscenes and story lines you’re already familiar with and go straight into farming. All blueprints are available from the word go, with the option of free building without requiring materials. You also have the option of building anywhere in the world, which will inevitably be exploited to torment the poor townsfolk. RainyGames asks that you not, but we all know how sandbox players operate. You can even skip the collision check and trap yourself in your creations, so use caution when you’re breaking the game!

The customization in Sandbox mode further extends to the normal progression of SunnySide. You can choose to start with the normal amount of money, none at all, or with 5 million of the game currency. Freely max all your skills or eliminate the unlock requirements, eliminate energy limits and NPC gender preferences, and own or unlock all the available farm locations from the start. You don’t even have to worry about pests stealing your crops or crops dying on the turn of the season if you don’t want to. It’s literally a free pass!

Apps to Add-On

But more than that, the developers are excited to announce the addition of new apps for your character’s phone. Your phone will now have an app that allows you to check your skill progressions without visiting the local shrine, as well as a tab on the Squirrel IM app. This will allow you to change your character’s profile at any time. Even in Story Mode, you won’t be locked in by your opening character screen decisions.
