Following this year’s Tokyo Game Show and a recent trailer reveal by publisher Top Hat Studios, the brutal comic book-inspired action-stealth platformer SteamDolls – Order of Chaos has launched a brand-new demo on Steam. This demo replaces the original “Concept Demo” from 2019 and features the prologue sequence of the game. It aims to provide long-time fans and newcomers immediate access. There are plans to move it to a dedicated sub-page before the next Steam NextFest, where an extended limited-time demo will also debut on October 14th.

Dark, Darker, Yet Darker

SteamDolls was inspired by classic games like Castlevania and Hollow Knight, and influenced by the fury of Dead Cells and the gloom of Bloodborne. On that alone, you can imagine just how dark the world gets. SteamDolls unfolds within a crumbling society, stagnating in a twisted industrial era haunted by the ghosts of the past. Instead of breaking away from fossil fuels as they depleted, the discovery of a new superconductive material ensured the cycle of pollution and corruption never broke. Humanity was crushed under that wheel, making them nothing more than dolls.

Originally conceived based on a comic book from the development studio, Shady Gentlemen, SteamDolls got incredible funding through Kickstarter. As a result, Shady Gentlemen brought together AAA voice talent from the Metal Gear Solid series, including David Hayter, Christopher Randolph, and Jennifer Hale. Moreover, SteamDolls combines stealth with Metroidvania elements, offering intense combat and deep exploration in a labyrinthine city teetering on chaos.

Step into the role of The Whisper, a cunning thief and anarchist. Navigate through the brutal shadows of a city consumed by madness. Balancing stealth with ferocity, you can choose to eliminate foes with devastating finishers or stealthily evade detection. Along the way, you’ll encounter a flamboyant cast of characters, including a goddess of nature, a wealthy immortal longing for death, and a skilled female gunslinger among others.

 SteamDolls invites you to uncover the story of this dying world, filled with secrets and remnants of the past. Utilize hacking skills to unlock terminals and access memories hidden within the city’s dark corners. Will you be the one to release the dolls, and tear down this crumbling society?
