It is time to pound the gavel, debaters! Fans of classic debate games like Ace Attorney will love the newest game from Intelligible Games – Pro Philosopher 2: Governments and Grievances! The visual novel debate adventure Pro Philosopher 2: Governments and Grievances has officially launched on Steam. This game is the long awaited follow up to the Flash game Socrates Jones: Pro Philosopher, originally published in 2013. Engage with renowned philosophers and challenge their ideas — whether you’re changing the world or simply poking fun at them.
OBJECTION!
In Pro Philosopher 2, you follow Ari, a college student who slips into a realm between life and death. Although her mother is trapped here by debate, its up to Ari to free her. To return home, you must navigate a series of interactive debates with some of history’s most influential thinkers. Can you out debate John Locke, Confucius, Karl Marx, and Niccolò Machiavelli? Untangle their logic, find internal contradictions, and flip their arguments on their head!

The original Pro Philosopher featured Ari’s father, Socrates Jones. Previously, he was the one trapped, debating philosophers like Plato and Hobbes. Socrates Jones’ adventure took on the quandaries of moral philosophy, but Pro Philosopher 2 pivoted to political philosophy. The game’s designer and writer, Connor Fallon, expressed pride in the team’s effort, emphasizing the challenges of tackling political topics directly. He hopes that players find enjoyment in exploring new perspectives and “that they like our many, many stupid jokes”.
Intelligible Games, based in Seattle, is a studio comprised of experienced developers from prominent companies like Riot, Bungie, and Arenanet. While balancing their day jobs in AAA game development, this passionate team dedicates their nights and weekends to creating narrative puzzle games that explore philosophical themes. The original Socrates Jones: Pro Philosopher has been added to Steam for free since the downfall of Flash, and Pro Philosopher 2 is on sale until October 22nd.
