You don’t even need to die to reincarnate as a slime this time. Slime Heroes is another gem of a game from Whitethorn Games, developed by Pancake Games. Step into the shoes of the last slime, tasked with saving your home from encroaching corruption. Whether you choose to embark on this adventure solo or with a friend, you’ll uncover various weapons and dynamically create magical abilities, allowing you to explore the world in your unique way.

Big Trouble, Little Slime
Team up with fellow slimes in co-op mode or play solo as you rescue ancient guardians from a mysterious blight threatening the land. Your slimes are good friends with a very sleepy dragon, who loves you enough to sacrifice their own life and send you to safety when all seems lost. Honestly, the emotional hooks are immediately in. I am so invested in the wellbeing of the dragon and our friendship within minutes.
Though its a hack-and-slash, your Slime Heroes start off pretty weak. However, you can level up through stat purchases. A three-tailed monkey takes the crystals you earn by defeating monsters in exchange, but buyer beware – each upgrade gets progressively more expensive. Its a good way of keeping Slime Heroes from becoming a complete grind fest, disincentivizing grinding in favor of getting good. The combat is really well balanced, between dodges, light and heavy melee attacks, and magic skills. You gain new weapons and skills – even hats! – as you go, making combat super customizable to your preferred style.

The world is also so gorgeous. The art style is smooth and vibrant, with very distinct and reactive environments. At times the outer environment can float in front of your vision when you’re at the bottom of the map, due to the fixed nature of the camera, but that’s about the only thing I can possibly complain about in the whole game. Slime Heroes even warns you that its best played with a controller, but I encountered literally zero issues using a mouse and keyboard. Its just that well designed.
Slime Heroes doesn’t have a release date as of yet, but you can play the demo yourselves.
