The world of Humblewood is expanding in spectacular fashion. Humblewood: Beyond the Canopy, the highly anticipated tabletop RPG expansion from Hit Point Press, has not only surpassed its $10k Kickstarter goal – it obliterated it. Hit Point Press has raised over $430,000 in under two weeks, with 14 days remaining in the campaign. This explosive success speaks to the enduring love for Humblewood‘s enchanting world of animal adventurers. With stretch goals unlocking at a rapid pace, backers can expect even more content before the campaign concludes.

A New Chapter in Everden
Beyond the Canopy invites players to journey beyond the familiar forests of Humblewood and into the wider continent of Wesden, a land teeming with new cultures, creatures, and calamities. The 250+ page book builds upon the beloved setting—often compared to Redwall and The Secret of NIMH. Inside is a globe-trotting adventure that pits heroes against Klaythusar, an undead artificer whose machinations threaten to plunge Wesden into a new Ice Age.
Designed for D&D 5e (with compatibility for both 2014 and 2024 rules), the expansion introduces a wealth of player options. This includes six new playable races, two sub-races, and the brand-new Gadgeteer class, a tinkerer’s dream that allows for custom mechanical creations. Alongside these, three new subclasses—the Deep Roots Sorcerer, Oath of Mysteries Paladin, and Way of the Wrangler Monk—deepen ties to Everden’s lore while remaining versatile enough for any campaign.
Meet the New Faces of Wesden
The Beyond the Canopy expansion breathes life into Everden with eight vibrant new playable species, each brimming with personality and mechanical flair. Someone more versed in Humblewood than I will have to figure out which are the sub-races, I’ll be honest. From armored wanderers to feathered linguists, these races invite players to experience Wesden through fresh eyes—and paws, claws, and talons.

The Stalwart Protectors
Arma Hedges lumber into battle with pangolin-inspired resilience, their interlocking stone-like plates deflecting blows that would fell lesser warriors. These gentle giants often serve as caravan guards in the Frostcaps, where their natural insulation against cold makes them invaluable.
Nearby, Caprans charge headfirst into problems—sometimes literally. These goatfolk combine stubborn determination with uncanny balance, their horns as useful for clearing avalanches as they are in tavern brawls. A Capran’s oath is unbreakable, much like their thick skulls.
The Curious and Cunning
Elurans move with feline grace, their societies valuing artistry and arcane study. Their purring incantations unsettle foes, while their roars can shake icicles from cavern ceilings—a trait that makes them revered (and occasionally feared) in Stormcrag’s echoing tunnels.
Meanwhile, Mustels—lithe badger- and weasel-folk—track secrets through scent and subterfuge. Their communities thrive in the Tanglewilds’ undergrowth, where their knack for finding hidden paths borders on supernatural.
Small But Mighty

The Rockburrow Jerbeen prove that size says little about courage. These chinchilla-like burrowers pack their cheek pouches with life-saving herbs, and their dense fur repels the Crystal Expanse’s biting winds. To meet one is to gain a loyal friend who’ll share their last berry.
Overhead, Seetas mimic speech and swordplay alike. Parrotfolk scholars in the Luzos Regent’s court use this talent to preserve history, while adventurers weaponize it to confuse enemies mid-combat.
Masters of Air and Innovation
Sylphs dart through battles like hummingbirds, their rapid wingbeats allowing aerial acrobatics that leave foes swiping at air. Stormcrag’s updrafts become their playgrounds, where they perform dazzling mating dances amid thunderheads.
Lastly, Tilias cling to civilization’s edges—sometimes upside-down. These gecko-folk craftsmen scale walls with sticky fingertips, repairing bridges in the Firnveldt or tinkering with gadgets in treetop workshops.
Each race includes unique traits that reflect their homeland’s challenges, from the Jerbeen’s Cold Resistance to the Tilia’s Climber’s Agility. Together, they paint a richer portrait of Everden—one where every hero, no matter their shape or size, has a role to play in thawing Wesden’s frozen fate.
Explore Wesden’s Untamed Lands
The expansion’s setting guide unveils five breathtaking regions, each brimming with adventure hooks and rich lore:
- The Crystal Expanse: A frozen wasteland where colossal maulruses roam and ancient secrets lie buried beneath the ice.
- The Frostcaps: Rugged, snow-draped valleys where survival depends on wit and resilience.
- The Firnveldt: Expansive grasslands home to the Stonehoof Protectorate and nomadic herders locked in a delicate political dance.
- Stormcrag: Towering peaks and subterranean warrens that offer refuge from the tempests above.
- The Tanglewilds: A lush, labyrinthine jungle ruled by the Luzos Regent from her palace high in the Atloh Evertree.
Each location is brought to life with 40+ new monsters and NPCs. Fifteen new magic items and a trove of spells, feats, and backgrounds ensure that every adventurer can carve their own path through Wesden’s wonders and dangers.
Some of these locations will be explored in Humblewood: Heart of Ice, a standalone adventure for levels 5–8. Players will chase Klaythusar across Wesden as his arcane storms wreak havoc, freezing landscapes and twisting creatures into heat-starved monstrosities. The narrative weaves in memorable NPCs, rival adventurers, and tough choices—particularly for those who might be tempted by Klaythusar’s promises of power.

Stretch Goals and Backer Bonuses
The campaign’s runaway success has already unlocked a slew of extras, including:
- Virtual Tabletop assets for Alchemy RPG and Shard Tabletop.
- Humblewood music licenses, so you can play the album when streaming your game.
- An Eluran Language Primer, adding depth to one of Everden’s most enigmatic cultures.
- A second adventure written by the Dungeon Dude (Monty and Kelly) in their classic style.
With the $400k stretch goal achieved, backers can look forward to an additional full-colored battle map for all players, and another 3D printed miniature set for Deluxe and above tiers. Should funding reach the $500k mark, Roll20 Virtual Tabletop support will also be added, ensuring that digital players can enjoy Wesden’s adventures with ease. Who knows what else will be brought to the table before the campaign ends?
