Spindlejack: A Free TTRPG for Citizen Sleeper’s 3rd Anniversary

Jumpstart Games and developer Jump Over the Age have released Spindlejack, a free solo tabletop RPG set in the Citizen Sleeper universe, as a special thank-you to fans celebrating three years since the original game’s launch. This compact but richly thematic experience lets players step into the boots of a daring airbike courier navigating the perilous transit tunnels of Far Spindle station.

Life on the Edge in the Starward Belt

In Spindlejack, you play as one of the station’s infamous couriers. They’re reckless pilots who dart through zero-gravity tunnels aboard customized airbikes, delivering sensitive cargo too volatile for digital networks. The game captures the series’ signature blend of scrappy survival and found family, tasking players with balancing:

  • CRYO earnings to stay alive
  • REP gains to climb the courier hierarchy
  • HEAT management to prevent your bike from overheating mid-delivery
  • TIME pressures that force risky shortcuts

Play unfolds across cycles, each representing a shift spent dodging cargo haulers and rival jockeys in Far Spindle’s cavernous transit lanes.

Accessible Yet Deep Gameplay

The game requires just 10d6 dice and the free PDF playsheet, found on Jump Over The Age’s itch.io. page. Spindlejack distills Citizen Sleeper’s dice-pool mechanics into a streamlined solo format.

Players:

  1. Roll dice to attempt deliveries, with results determining CRYO/REP payouts
  2. Manage HEAT—push your bike too hard, and systems may fail catastrophically
  3. Unlock upgrades like reinforced plating or smuggler compartments
  4. Navigate emergent stories through random encounters and faction tensions

The included station map fuels immersion, marking key locations like the volatile Dockers’ Quarter or the courier hub known as the Roost. I’ve taken a look myself and though small, Spindlejack is well suited for single-person adventures, competitive play managed by a skilled GM, or even as an added content module for larger Sci-fi based TTRPGs.

A Love Letter to Fans

This release coincides with a 70% discount on Citizen Sleeper and 20% off Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector. The sale lasts until May 14—perfect for newcomers drawn in by Spindlejack’s cyberpunk-tinged worldbuilding.

Spindlejack is our way of giving back to the community that’s supported these games,” said Gareth Damian Martin, creative lead at Jump Over the Age. “It’s a chance to live out those high-speed chase scenes we all imagined while playing the digital RPGs.” If you’ve got Citizen Sleeper 2, I highly recommend downloading it and giving it a try, yourselves!
