Broken Mirror Games and Skybound Entertainment have teamed up to show off the first gameplay trailer for I Hate This Place, Rock Square Thunder‘s upcoming craft-focused, isometric survival-horror game. If players want to survive, they must find ways to deal with warp-bending realities and terrifying twisted monsters.
Players will explore and scavenge for resources in a harsh, unforgiving wilderness where they’ll craft weapons and find ways to secure and protect their shelter. The game brings all this crafting and survival-horror goodness to players wrapped up in a comic book aesthetic with vibes reminiscent of 80s horror.
I Hate This Place Gameplay Trailer
The official gameplay trailer for I Hate This Place shows off the isometric survival horror gameplay brilliantly. We see the main character Elena get attacked by a giant and, quite frankly, pretty gnarly looking spider. The crafting system also shows that Elena can craft an array of melee and ranged weapons.
Besides the giant spider, we see the different enemies Elena will need to face. These range from infected-looking wildlife to large and imposing humanoid enemies. It wouldn’t be a survival horror game if stealth weren’t on the table. Running low on ammo? Elana can throw objects to help herself sneak past enemies.
Key Features

The key features for I Hate This Place include:
- Classic Craft-Based Survival Horror:
As Elena, you’ll need to search every inch of Rutherford Ranch to stay alive and look for your friend, Lou. It won’t be easy as you’ll have to survive haunted forests, a ghost town, and infested bunkers.
- Prepare In The Day To Be Hunted At Night:
I Hate This Place will feature a dynamic day/night cycle that changes the world Elena is in. You’ll need to use daylight to explore, look for supplies, and craft to prepare for what comes when night falls. At night, enemies will become stronger, more numerous, and more aggressive than during the day.
If you feel yourself becoming too overwhelmed though, Elena can find shelter and wait out the night till morning arrives.
- Deadly Silence Goes A Long Way:
Stealth and combat go hand-in-hand in I Hate This Place, as many of the enemies will attempt to hunt and kill Elena. Some enemies will track you on sound alone and you’ll need to use sound to your advantage to distract them. From luring them away with the well-placed throw of a can to tricking them into a trap, you’ll need to use your cunning if you want to sneak past enemies.
- 80’s Vibes Meets Comic Book Flair:
I Hate This Place is inspired by the comic of the same name, penned by the creators Kyle Starks, Artyom Toplin, and Lee Loughridge. The game comes to life with a retro 80s-style, bold and bright colors, and a unique blend of dark comedy and horror.

While I Hate This Place doesn’t have a firm release date yet, it is set to be released later this year. I Hate This Place is reminiscent of the Dying Light and Alan Wake games, and if you like those, you might like this game too. If you like what you’ve seen from the trailer, you can Wishlist the game on Steam.
I Hate This Place will launch on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch in Q4 2025.
