Band of Crusaders, the first game from fledgling game developer studio Virtual Alchemy, was first announced last year in August 2024. Fast forward a year, and Virtual Alchemy has just released a new gameplay trailer for Band of Crusaders during gamescom 2025. If you haven’t heard of Band of Crusaders before, it’s an upcoming RPG set in a dark and corrupted version of medieval Europe.

As the grandmaster of an order of knights, you’ll recruit and manage the needs of those under your command, all while trying to manage your camp along with fighting in grueling and bloody battles.

Watching the trailer, it gives off the feel of gameplay similar to Baldur’s Gate with the vibes of The Witcher. The trailer does a pretty good job of showing off the game’s world and its hazards. We see the demonic and human threats the player will face, along with camp upgrading, skill trees, etc. The trailer also shows off the game’s campaign map, and it looks awesome! Getting to visit places like Paris and Lyon in the game will be a real treat based on the game’s story and art style.

Some of the features that Band of Crusaders will feature include:

• Real-Time Tactical Combat: In Band of Crusaders, you’ll command knights, spearmen, archers, etc, and pit them against bandits, demons, and cultists, all in an attempt to pry a ruined Europe from their control.

• Tactical Slow-Motion: Combat will be fast-paced and evolve pretty quickly. The game will allow for tactical slow-mo to help with decision-making in combat.
  
• Camp Management: Upgrading your camp will help meet the needs of your order and help keep them in top form. It’ll also be where you can rest and enjoy a hot meal as a nice reprieve from fighting.
  
• Customized Progression: As the grandmaster of the order, you’ll need to oversee the customization of skills and equipment for your warriors. Each warrior can be customized differently and doing a poor job might get them killed.
  
• Emergent Gameplay: Explore the overworld of continental Europe, which will feature emergent storytelling of eldritch cults and quests that lends to player agency in the world.
