Ready for a fast-paced, addicting experience? Because Green Goo Games has just dropped their demo of Greyskin on Steam.
Greyskin is a bullet hell, hack and slash dungeon crawler. You take on one of four rats, the Sharpshooter, the Demolisher, the Assassin, or the Brawler. Each has unique weapons and playstyles, though Sharpshooter is the only one available in the demo. Once in the game, you must battle your way through a variety of dungeons. You excavate dungeons to increase their difficulty and drop values, and supercharge your home base for future characters to use.
Greyskin is easy to jump into, even for players new to the genre, but still complex and challenging enough to entice true veteran players. One quick tutorial, and you’re ready to go. Your character is easily upgraded with various grades of weapons, armor, and accessories, as well as through gene mutations gained as loot or through level ups. The fast progression makes for a rather addicting experience.

Stranger Than Fiction
Now, Greyskin is set in Weird Fiction. For those who don’t know, Weird Fiction is a subgenre of speculative fiction that radically reinterprets your traditional supernatural horror villains. There are no “systems”, no reason why what’s happening is happening. Like Lovecraft’s early novels, the genre relies on the reader, or player, to fill in the gaps of the absurd.
And indeed, there is no readily apparent plot in Greyskin. You are plopped down in the world with a quick tutorial on how to use the combat and inventory. Then you are thrown at the many various mutated monsters and machines littering the dungeons. While there are vague hints that you are on a dark path that might be elaborated on in the full release, right now the best you can figure is the quickest way to score some loot.
Green Goo Games is an independent game developer based in Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. While Greyskin is their first title, the demo truly feels like a fully fleshed out game. It limits you to a three-hour experience, but it’s truly insane just how far into the game you can get within that time.
Greyskin will be coming to Early Access soon as well, so if you enjoy a true hack and slash experience, I highly recommend checking it out.
