This week, we’re celebrating cozy, feel good games with Steam’s Wholesome Games Celebration event. The games that we’re looking to highlight for the event inspire joy, optimism, and inspiration, and perhaps no game embodies those virtues like Instants.

Instants is a heartwarming game about nostalgia and memory that blends puzzle-solving, crafting, and heartfelt storytelling. In this casual game developed by Endflame, you are asked by your father to make an album for your mother with pictures from their youth. You have free reign to design and decorate the album however you wish. Use a variety of stickers, stationary, and text to really make your creations pop.

Over the course of the game, you’ll be piecing together your family history through the generations. The puzzle aspect lies in having to sort through the pictures, and put them together in the correct order. Instants is a pretty frustration free game, as you’ll have help in the form of your feline friend. If you’re having trouble with a few pictures, then take a look at her and see what your cat thinks.

Instants is quite the departure from Endflame’s first award-winning game, Ikai. Ikai was a first-person, beautifully 3D rendered psychological horror, set in Feudal Japan. Although Endflame is a developer from Barcelona, Spain, it is clear to see the love, care, and research that went into producing Ikai. The story and the world fully envelopes you in the darkest tales of Japanese folklore, providing a genuinely terrifying experience. On the other hand, Instants is 2D, pastel, and cute as hell. Endflame is a team that refuses to be pigeon-holed into one style or genre, and Instants puts their versatility is on full display.
