JRPGs are notorious for taking on the heavens in their final act. However, in this newest game from Ephemera Games and Whitethorn Games you’re punking angels from the word GO. Kernel Hearts: Heavenly Dispatch Squad is a newly announced hack and slash action roguelike. You can become magical girls with up to four friends as you literally fight God.

Biblically Correct Angels Starboard Side!
As part of the M.A.H.O.U Unit, you, the player, are tasked with climbing the Tower of Babel, eliminating the angelic creatures in your path. Your ultimate goal is to dethrone God and save a world drowning in ashes. With that as the premise, Kernel Hearts is set to be a pretty controversial game in the United States.
Your characters are essentially bio-androids, from the looks of it. Whenever you fail a run, your experiences return to the last memory backup in your base – a laboratory on the outskirts of humanity’s last holdout. Spend your earnings from each run to equip up to 256KB of data onto your M.A.H.O.U. unit and customize them to fit your playstyle.
Kernel Hearts is gorgeous, with 3D anime style graphics reminiscent of the Hoyo games, 2D character sprites, as well as a fantastically punchy musical score. Ephemera Games went hard in every aspect of Kernel Hearts, as far as we’ve seen from the trailer.
Aside from the main combat aspect of Kernel Hearts, you can also interact with the tower’s inhabitants. Complete quests and give gifts to deepen your bond with them, gain potential allies, and unlock fun 2D cutscenes.
We don’t have a release date as of yet, however you can Wishlist and Follow on Steam for development updates. Additionally, Ephemera Games invites those interested to join their Discord for the chance to join their free early playtest. They also have a sign-up for interested players to receive a free demo of Kernel Hearts when it is ready. You know we’ll be playing it when its available, so check back for further news!
