Atari has partnered with IDW Publishing to launch an official comic book based off of their latest game, Yars Rising, set within the universe of Atari’s Yars franchise. This single-issue comic serves as a companion piece to the game and is slated for release on November 13. The 32-page comic will be available both online and in traditional comic bookstores for just $4.99.

Yars Rising is the newest installment in a video game franchise that dates back to 1982, when the original Yars’ Revenge was released for the Atari 2600 home console. This iconic title made history by being the first to pair the game cartridge with a comic book. Moreover, this prelude gave players insight into the game’s backstory, explaining why the Yars had it out for the Qotile. It was definitely needed, given the limitations of the system’s graphics at the time. Now, the comic tells the prelude story for Yars Rising.

The Call Knows Where You Live

The comic, written by Adam Tierney, Game Director at WayForward, shows how Emi Kimura got wrapped up in the QoTech conspiracy. Basically, our protagonist and her friends grapple with the consequences of a job that goes disastrously wrong. Readers will gain a glimpse of the challenges and adventures awaiting you in the game, so be on the look-out.

The artistic talents behind Yars Rising #1 include Ashleigh Hetrick, the Art Director at WayForward, and Aurora Maeno. They brought on Ele Bruni, known for works like Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Tea Time and Space Opera. Their collaborative efforts adapt the gorgeous game graphics to comic format in fun, neon colors. We’re lucky enough to give you a sneak peak, so you can see for yourselves.

Yars Rising the game is currently available on multiple platforms. Find it on Steam and Epic Games, as well as on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X and S, and Atari VCS.
