Experience a thrilling adventure in LimboLane’s latest release, Great God Grove, the talented creators behind Smile for Me and Face Love! Published by Fellow Traveller Games, this game invites you to explore a strange island filled with unique types of gods, each with their own stories and challenges.
Island Filled with Quirky Gods
Great God Grove starts on a boat, where you are introduced to the main plot and mechanics of the game. The gods have once again come to the point where it is needed to stop another apocalypse. While the other times this has happened and supposedly gone without any problem, this time is different. The only way for these gods to communicate is through mail and their mailman has disappeared without much of warning. Now, the gods are fighting, and it is up to the player to fix their relationships and stop the world from ending.

As you travel through the island, you’ll come across strange and unique characters that will help or hinder your quest, and puzzles that will keep you engaged. As you journey through the grove of the gods, you learn more about them, humans that live there, and explore the humor of the game through these characters.

An Art Style that Comes to Life
The first thing I noticed about Great God Grove was the unique art styles in the trailer. Similar to other games from LIMBOLANE, it uses several art style mixes that work so well in the world. It becomes clear that the creators have invested considerable thought and creativity into making the characters feel genuinely alive, immersing players in a vibrant and enchanting universe that promises both adventure and visual delight. There are sections where the 2D art-style changes to 3D and even moments where it changes to live action and the characters were puppets. And then, it easily switches back to the regular art style.

As players explore Great God Grove, they will find that each character’s design tells a story all on its own with subtle elements that showcase the character without taking the player out of the game.

Using Their Words
The gameplay within Great God Grove also provided the player with plenty of moments to feel engaged. Armed with a trusty megaphone that the former mailman used, you suck up and spit out different dialogue that you gathered from characters to help you solve arguments, broken hearts, and other puzzles in order to save the world from ending.

As you travel through the Grove, different puzzles will need the help from a mailman and a megaphone to solve. These puzzles with their unique designs will challenge your wits and creativity.

The Challenges
As mentioned before, Great God Grove has plenty of puzzles and challenges. Without much direction, you need to think of new ways of solving puzzles and fight characters with their own words. If you play on PC or Mac like I did, I recommend using a controller to make it easier. Unless you like keyboard controls, the default setting can be a little sensitive to play with. I found it much easier to switch between the controls with a controller.

Final Thoughts
Great God Grove offers the player a blend of unique characters and art style, a captivating story to follow, and challenging puzzles to solve as you journey through the grove filled with gods and humans to try and stop the world from ending. I highly recommend getting a hold of this game and experiencing the quirky characters and engaging gameplay for yourself.
Great God Grove will be available on November 15th, 2024 on Steam, Nintendo Switch and Xbox for $19.99. NeverMore Niche received a review key generously provided by Fellow Traveller Games.
