Miniatures painters in the house say, “Palette Forge!”

Have you ever wondered how your TTRPG miniature would look in different colors, without buying all the supplies beforehand? Or are you like me and don’t have the steadiest of hands, making painting just out of reach? Then we are in for a treat!

Dropping next month, Palette Forge, from newcomer Midlife Hobbies, promises to take the guesswork out and put the creativity into painting miniatures. Partnering with renown sculptors Dakka Dakka, Rescale Miniatures and The Lazy Forger, the program contains over 100 licensed models to try out. With more on the way, there’s plenty to choose from and endless ways to paint them.

As the program and its models are compatible with many physical miniatures. Painters are encouraged to share their creations with the Steam community.

The Sky’s the Limit!

So, how does it work? Palette Forge isn’t a miniature painting sim.  However, that doesn’t mean it is only for those who paint physical models. The great thing about this program is that the only barrier is your imagination. Those of us with physical limitations can still have a lot of fun digitally coloring miniatures too!

“The main feature is the advanced palette system that not only gives you a reference of colors you chose for your palette but also a recipe to mix those colors using a custom CMYK drop system,” Midlife Hobbies states on their Steam page.

Additional Features

And that’s just the beginning. Palette Forge has a whole host of other features. Take a look:

  • A preview color palette with the ability to be expanded showing you the colors palette you’ve used with information on each color including paint mixing instructions to get the color with physical mediums.
  • An Undo button with multiple undo depth. mistakes can make the miniature interesting and lead to creativity, but sometimes undo is needed.
  • Export a default photo on the workspace and preview palette or open the advanced palette view for the screenshot for reference.
  • Brush Size, Pressure, Shape and the ability to rotate and flip the brush. With over 100 brushes to choose from.
  • Paint glossy or reflective metallic colors anywhere you want using the Metallic Intensity setting.
  • Blend colors together using an amazing blending tool where you control the intenseness of the blending.
  • A very intuitive 360-degree camera system, but also the ability to rotate the miniature itself as well as the lighting.
  • A “Start Fresh” button to clear the mini of all paint while maintaining the palette.
  •  A fully featured Showcase mode allowing you to set up an interesting background for the miniature so you can export an amazing image of your painted miniature. With over 70 backgrounds to choose from.
  • A quick help system to show you the controls and access to a PDF manual from within the software to support your journey as needed.
  • Check out their website for the full user manual.

Gone are the days of a lengthy, trial and error process of figuring out what your miniatures will look like before you paint them. With Palette Forge, all your models can be painted to perfection, before you even pick up your brush!

Miniature painters, will you be trying out Palette Forge? Let us know! We would love to see some of your creations when it is released on Steam next month.
