Maximum Entertainment and Breakfirst Games have announced that How 2 Escape: Lost Submarine, the latest installment in their innovative co-op puzzle franchise, will launch on June 24, 2025 for PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and PlayStation platforms. A free demo is available now on Steam, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch, giving players a taste of the game’s unique asymmetric cooperative gameplay.
A Race Against Time to Prevent Global War
Set during a tense Cold War-era crisis, the game tasks two players with locating the missing submarine The Triumphant before it launches a torpedo strike that could ignite global conflict. One player explores the submarine’s claustrophobic interior, solving environmental puzzles and uncovering clues, while their partner uses the free companion app (available on PC, iOS, and Android) to access classified documents, decrypt messages, and provide critical outside information.
This asymmetric co-op design creates an authentic escape room dynamic where clear communication and teamwork are essential. “It’s not just about solving puzzles,” explains lead designer Claire Dubois. “It’s about learning how to share information effectively under pressure.”
Enhanced Gameplay Features
Building on the franchise’s successful formula, Lost Submarine introduces:
- More complex multi-stage puzzles requiring coordinated solutions
- A tense moral dilemma narrative affecting crew interactions
- New tactile interactions like manually operating submarine systems
- Cross-platform play between all supported devices
The companion app has been completely redesigned based on player feedback, with clearer UI and additional tools to assist the inside player.
Accessible Yet Challenging
True to Breakfirst Games’ philosophy, the experience remains approachable for casual players while offering depth for puzzle enthusiasts. The 4-6 hour campaign adapts difficulty based on player performance, and an integrated hint system prevents frustration without breaking immersion.
“Families can enjoy this together just as much as hardcore escape room fans,” says Maximum Entertainment’s Mark Johnson. “It’s about that ‘aha!’ moment you can only get through collaboration.”
