Gaucho and the Grassland Gallops onto Steam July 16

Brazilian developer Epopeia Games invites players to experience the tranquil yet adventurous life of a Latin cowboy. Their new game Gaucho and the Grassland, launches in its full 1.0 glory on July 16 via Steam. Priced at $19.99, the game will offer a 15% launch discount for the first two weeks, giving you the chance to immerse yourself in this unique blend of pastoral life and mystical exploration.

A Zelda-Inspired Ode to Rural Life

Gaucho and the Grassland infuses the farming sim genre with the contemplative spirit of The Legend of Zelda series. Rather than focusing solely on tilling fields or raising livestock, the game weaves together moments of quiet reflection with a grander sense of adventure.

Lead designer Rodrigo Moreira reflected on the game’s inspiration, saying, “Zelda taught us that epic quests can coexist with serenity—those peaceful moments fishing by a lake or chatting with villagers. We wanted to capture that same harmony, where the simple act of herding cattle under an open sky feels as meaningful as uncovering the world’s magical secrets.”

Become the Guardian of the Pampas

You take on the role of a chosen guardian entrusted with restoring balance to the land. Unlike traditional farming sims, there’s no inherited plot to tend. Instead, the journey unfolds across four beautifully distinct regions, each with its own rhythm and mysteries.

The golden grasslands stretch endlessly, where you rope cattle, shear sheep, and gather eggs in true gaucho fashion. The misty highlands offer solitude and foraging, while the coastal beaches provide a change of pace with breezy, sunlit activities. Beyond the physical world also lies a mystical realm, where an enigmatic cattlewoman guides players through surreal landscapes and deeper narrative layers.

A Celebration of Latin Cowboy Culture

Epopeia Games has instilled rich cultural authenticity into Gaucho and the Grassland. They’ve included the brew mate, a traditional herbal drink that unveils hidden secrets while you play harmonica under starry skies. The daily life of a gaucho is lovingly portrayed—whether it’s repairing a weathered ranch house, bonding with villagers, or simply watching the sunset over the pampas.

The game’s journey began with its Best Game Pitch win at Brazil’s Big Festival 2022. Since then, it evolved into a full-fledged experience under Epopeia Games—the studio behind 2024’s surprise hit Mullet MadJack. With its soothing yet engaging gameplay, Gaucho and the Grassland aims to carve out a unique space in the cozy gaming landscape.

Expanding Beyond PC

While the Steam release on July 16 marks the game’s debut, Epopeia Games has already confirmed plans to bring Gaucho and the Grassland to Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4|5 in 2025, ensuring cowboy life can be enjoyed across all platforms. Can’t wait? Then try the demo on Steam, available today.
