K-Pop Idol Stories: Road to Debut Has Starpower

K-Pop Idol Stories: Road to Debut is an ambitious RPG business simulator from developer Wisageni Studio.

In the demo for K-Pop Idol Stories, you play as a passionate but struggling manager offered their dream job at WG Entertainment, where you’re put in charge of managing a group of hopeful idol trainees. Starting with a budget of $50,000, you’re given full creative control of the project right down to the group name, its members, and its appeal and marketing.

Over time you improve your relationship with the girls, figure out the ideal schedules, and prioritize tasks that will ensure your up-and-coming trainees will blossom into proper pop stars.

Practice Makes Perfect

K-Pop Idol Stories is a business simulation first and foremost. For its core gameplay loop, it places emphasis on scheduling and budgeting. But to keep the formula fresh, K-Pop Idol Stories with a few surprise mini games. What you’ll stumble across most often is rhythm and memory games that fit the musical theming, one for singing and the other for dancing. Even the audition process is represented with a test of reflexes.

A word of advice, the secondary choice of Online Auditions is often the way to go. Not only was the pool of options diverse, but the version of this mini game was much more forgiving. More confident gamers can take a jab at the Offline Auditions which will guarantee you some A+ talent, but only if you have the precision necessary to snag a star.

Pretty Girls and Gameplay

Made evident from the store page, K-Pop Idol Stories is a gorgeous game. Dressed up in a glamorous purple and pastel interface, the game’s aesthetic is radiant. With its contrast of cool and warm colors and beautifully designed characters, it’s easy to get invested just from the game’s looks alone. Each and every trainee is “cover girl ready” with their stylish outfits and glossy haircuts. I most definitely look forward to dressing them up in new outfits in the full version.

Locations are mostly limited to the studio and some city locations, but both come with some positively wonderful color grading. The office feels sleek and professional but not uninviting. The city you work in is big and busy with a beautiful sky overlooking all of it.

I also like how the trainees going through the schedule is represented with these adorable little chibis. There’s even a later scene where you can decide which trainee you want to contact via a text message. Each girl gets their own unique portrait during this moment which is such amazing attention to detail.

A Not So Idle Idol Game

As someone who has played many anime idol games, I always thought the business manager aspect was a bit overlooked. I found some suspense in the lingering possibility that these dreams of stardom could indeed fail. Poor planning, bad budgeting, and recruiting talent not cut out for the industry can throw your dreams into a tailspin. Too many hiccups and you’ll be back to where you started. Though I never ran into this issue, I still felt motivated to make the right moves.

The game understands the concept of risk and reward without being too brutal about your mistakes while not being so rewarding to your good decisions that you can slack off.

A Star is Born

Out of the demos I played, I can say that this is the one I spent the most time on. Though I started off overwhelmed with all the options available, I soon found a rhythm. I even ended up using up all the available save slots to see what else the demo had to offer.

On my third playthrough, I learned that you could unlock acting classes and that was only because I selected one particular girl during the auditions. It was a complete chance encounter and that little surprise was what motivated me to keep exploring.

I’d usually feel overwhelmed, but I honestly always looked forward to what new options I could find next. I looked forward to padding out my schedule, finding new classes and outings to go on.

As someone who enjoys clean, organized fun, K-Pop Idol Stories not only has that but also caters to my love of idol-based games. Whether you pick it up for its promises of star-studded glamour or are just looking for a fun new business simulator, you’ll see that K-Pop Idol Stories-Road to Debut is singing a pleasant tune.

The demo for K-Pop Idol Stories: Road to Debut is available during Steam Next Fest: June 2025. It does not have a release date yet.
