SerendiPalette Paints a Perfect Relaxing Experience

Prep your palette and create your beautiful watercolor landscape with SerendiPalette, a gentle and casual tile-placing game by developer Sateki Games. A lovely and relaxing soundtrack, a satisfying yet easy-going pace, and a gorgeous, hand-drawn design make you feel as safe as a Bob Ross video in this sweet little demo.

Build Your Palette

Use your painter’s palette to place different color tiles and paint a landscape on your canvas. The palette has six colors, which you can level up as you go to make specific positions on the palette worth more points.

Match your next tile placement with high point colors to earn more balloons. Hit your balloon goal, and you can level up your palette again. But be careful, because you only have so many tiles to place—run out, and its game over. Or game reset, if you want to try again and see what world you create next time.

Simple Mechanics, Enticing Strategies

Will you try to make a well-rounded palette, so every tile placement earns points? Or will you pour your upgrades into two or three spots to score big and hope the order of the tiles you get works out for you?

As another added challenge, specific tile combinations help uncover a painting that’s slowly coming to life in the corner of your canvas. Those combos don’t always earn you good points, though, so focusing too much on them can lead to a fast game over if you’re not careful.

A Masterpiece of Relaxation

SerendiPalette’s biggest boast is its lovely, hand-drawn, watercolor-like designs. Different tile colors turn into towns, forests, lakes, and other beautiful scenery. There are also special spots marked by question marks on your canvas. Build your tiles out that way to discover unique landmarks that can earn you big point and give you special new designs to admire.

With the lovely palette, gorgeous music, and straightforward gameplay that lets you make every move at your own pace, this is the perfect game to grab when you just want to unwind for a little bit. There’s just enough challenge to scoring points to keep you hooked without taking away from the slow, relaxing vibe the game is going for.

But Is There More?

As well-balanced as the gameplay is, though, it’s still quite simple. While perfect for a short break or a moment of calm at the end of the long day, SerendiPalette lacks the substance to keep you interested in for more than an hour or so.

But it’s a testament to how much I enjoyed that hour that I’m left wanting something more from the game’s full release or later on in the future. New color palettes, fresh landscapes and tile designs, or extra gameplay variations, puzzles, or challenges would keep the game fresh and enticing for much longer. I also found myself wanting a free build or free paint mode; while there’s not enough there for a full city builder, playing around with an empty canvas is always a fun option.

For now, though, SerendiPalette remains a sweet, straightforward idea that’s been executed beautifully. If you’re looking for a simple and relaxing gameplay experience, you’ve found it.
