Spanky Bat-A-Swing

1930’s-Style Music Platformer Spanky Bat-A-Swing Is Live On Kickstarter!

One of the best things about Kickstarter is that it allows people to create the things they want and then find the fanbase that wants to enjoy these creations with them. Thus, we see unique titles like Spanky Bat-A-Swing emerge, and this musical platformer, inspired by the 1930’s, definitely stands out.

Here’s a brief description of the game:

Spanky, a very grumpy bat, one day wakes up to an incessant music, just to find out that the new Mayor, Metrognome, has thrown an endless party after his election. While every citizen is blissed out by the music, Spanky just wants to bring back his peace and quiet. To do so, he mounts giant speaker cannons in his ears. These devices make him able to harness the power of sound and overcome the limits of his shortness. Will Spanky succeed making his way to the mayor’s office one sound-powered slap at a time?

The crew at Green Flamingo Studios didn’t simply make this a game where you have to “time your moves to the rhythm,” like other rhythm games do. Instead, the music is truly a part of the world itself:

“Rhythm is part of the world’s logic: hazards follow the tempo, enemies attack in patterns like drum fills, and bosses escalate like songs changing sections.”

With 15 levels to enjoy, 20 tracks to listen to, four boss fights to test your skills with, and leaderboards to climb up, you’ll find that this game has plenty to offer. That includes the Kickstarter rewards you can claim, which include things like physical copies of the title (which will release on PC, Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and Nintendo Switch), stickers, figures of Spanky, art books, vinyl records, and so much more!

At the time of this writing, the game has just under $10,000 raised of its $29,000 goal. It has just over 19 days to raise the rest of its goal. So, if this old-school music platformer speaks to you, give the campaign a look and see what you might want to pledge to it. Or, if you need to “dabble in it first,” there’s a Steam demo you can try!
