Mistbound

Guild Wars CCG Spinoff Game, Mistbound, Announced For PC and Mobile!

It’s been an interesting time to be a Guild Wars fan. First, the announcement of the third entry of the beloved and iconic MMORPG franchise blew fans away, as no one was expecting it. Now, the teams at ArenaNet, Bilibili, and NC have come together to announce that a free-to-play collective card game set within the Guild Wars universe is coming to PC and mobile platforms, and it’ll be called Mistbound.

According to the official press release, the game was “designed around new multi-directional card movement mechanics, Mistbound aims to bring new energy to the traditional CCG universe and honor the legacy of Guild Wars for players.”

As one would expect from such a title, Mistbound will showcase the MMORPG’s deep history, including its characters, settings, and even the music that has made it so beloved. Plus, the community will be heavily involved over time, including giving them singleplayer and multiplayer options for them to fully enjoy the game.

“We felt it was time to give Guild Wars fans a new way to play together, inspired by the card game roots of the franchise, wher
they could compete in a competitive PvP arena in a CCG game space. Having all those experiences they love of the characters and creatures and the sounds of the world of Tyria brought to life in CCG,” said Colin Johanson, Studio Head at ArenaNet.

But how will you actually play the game? Thankfully, the press release had an answer for that, too:

“In Mistbound, players will step into the boots of a commander, becoming one with the battlefield as they select cards to deploy onto a dynamic 5 x 3 tactical grid and crucially reposition them turn-by-turn in response to enemy movements. This feature, dubbed ‘Dynamic Movement Gameplay,’ allows each card to move in multiple directions per turn, ensuring exciting and unpredictable moment-to-moment gameplay.”

The game is still in development, but pre-registration for when it goes active for players is available now on the game’s website (link above). In the meantime, here’s another video featuring the dev team breaking down the title even more.
