Let’s be honest, games featuring monsters you can fight, capture, and then fight alongside are one of the staples of the gaming industry. As such, it’s up to developers like Jotoyo to make their twist on the genre feel special. Today, the developer revealed Monster Fantasy, which they’ve dubbed a “Cozy RPG” meant to invoke certain characters of Pokémon, Animal Crossing, and other great titles.

While the game does have a Steam page, Monster Fantasy will be heading to Kickstarter to help get the rest of its funding so the game can be completed. If you go to the link above, you can follow the project and get alerts when the campaign officially launches.

So, what separates Monster Fantasy from other titles? First, hunting and capturing monsters doesn’t have to be your primary focus. Instead, you can focus on village life and do all sorts of things with other villagers to live a full life that way. Then, when you’re ready, you can go out, fight or tame monsters, and then come back to your village routine! The game wants you to feel the freedom to do what you want, as do the creators:

“Our ambition is to break down the barrier between action games and cozy games, creating a world where players of different ages, skill levels, and play preferences can each find their own kind of enjoyment,” explains Jotoyo founder Allan Xai.
