Right now, the world is dealing with a “crisis” via AI being used by those in power to hinder those at the bottom. Now, though, imagine that you’re hired to help fix and run a company…that’s already run by an AI…and has basically fired everyone else. Sounds fun, right? That’s the plot behind the upcoming story-rich RPG Holonoptic, which drops on Steam next week.
And as this breakdown of the gameplay, via the team at Glazial’s press release, things get really dark:
On its management surface, Holonoptic is a proper economic sim: supply chains, facilities to build and upgrade, thousands of employees to hire or fire, and 50+ unique companies to trade with, undercut, steal from or acquire through friendly deals or hostile takeovers as you push Glazial across a weakened Eurozone.
But the game’s real trick is that it never lets you forget there is a person in the chair. Your CEO carries 40 psychological traits, some of them frankly pathological, and eight mental and emotional states. Before a high-stakes negotiation, you can reach for a pharmacopeia of 16 psychoactive substances to nudge your own focus, euphoria, or detachment. It asks not just what the optimal move is, but whether you can stand to be the person who makes it.
Well…most CEOs are nuts, but this might be pushing it a bit…maybe…
Anyway, the game has plenty of options for you to work with, and work out, as you progress, including hiring certain people, learning lots of skills and abilities, and it all adds up to over 10 endings you can get by the time your “work is done.”
So, if you’re intrigued by the game, you can try out the demo that’s available right now. Or, you can wait until the 16th to buy it!
