If you played video games with your siblings or childhood friends, you know the taste of real betrayal. There is no stronger thirst for revenge than one born from your loved ones targeting you in-game or unplugging your controller out of it. Now, there’s an unlimited number of opportunities to return the favor for the horror co-op audience. Beck & Branch Games and Neem Interactive’s extraction builder Grain Rot will release on August 27th for PC via Steam.

The game puts the player and four of their friends in the bodies of (very fragile) wooden vessels searching for loot in the treacherous underground:

“Each time your vessel catches fire or gets smashed to pieces, your Living Spark will need to find and possess a new one, allowing you to keep riding the cursed elevator deeper in the search for loot. Furniture can be smashed to splinters as you use the debris for resources or feed it to the Grinder for gold.”

Ideally, you’d make it all back in one piece, but your closest allies might have other plans in store:

“Create your own chaos by sending your pal’s Spark out of their vessel or simply leave them to fend for themselves against a horde of monsters. Who needs enemies when you have friends like these? Troll wisely, though: if everyone breaks then your loot is lost forever.”
