It’s always a refreshing thing to hear that a demo released by an indie game team did well following a certain festival or event. At Steam Next Fest, CODEBREW SOFTWARE released a demo for its bullet hell space roguelike Sublight, and nearly 9,000 downloads later, the team has updated the demo, which you can get on Steam, to bolster what the game can do.
For those who haven’t played the game, the title puts you in a ship and sends you on multiple missions to see how long you can survive. Each sector of space has different foes and challenges to overcome, and you’ll need to upgrade your ship in kind to handle each threat. Here’s a trailer for the game to give you a look at how gameplay goes:
So, what exactly is in the new demo? Here’s a breakdown:
- A powerful new threat: After 30 minutes, an enemy flagship spawns and hunts you down, growing more dangerous in both damage and speed the longer you survive. Lean on defensive and mobility options to outlast it. Can you make it out with a high score?
- A weapon overhaul: Chainguns now pierce through multiple targets in a line,
autocannons deal explosive damage, barrage weapons lead their shots for genuinely better accuracy, and ship-unique weapons now lock into class- specific hardpoints for stronger, more focused builds. - New build paths: Status effects can now stack, opening up real elemental strategies; Ignite stacks up to 5 times with new passives to support it, and Cold stacks up to 20, freezing enemies outright and setting them up for bonus damage.
Through your help, Sublight will continue to grow until its Q4 2026 release.
