As someone who multitasks frequently, I’m always looking for a good idle game that entertains me, while not requiring me to constantly be present at the same time. MementoMori is the perfect game for exactly that! It provides active engagement when I’m there, while also providing idle play to continue when I’m not. This little gem, published and developed by Bank of Innovation, Inc., leads you on a journey to battle against darkness. It provides an auto battle, idle game system that allows you to move forward without a huge time or money investment! And as a bonus, it provides visual beauty and amazing music to tie it all together!

The designs in the game are haunting and captivating. Immediately, I found myself drawn into the watercolor styling that the designer went with for this game. The battle scenes display beautiful splash page imagery for each character and for battle scenes.

Next, there is the soundtrack, which I can only describe as enchanting. It definitely adds another level to this free-to-play, idle-RPG game. Each song fits the storyline and each situation perfectly! I even caught myself humming along several times with the alluring music throughout the gameplay.

A Haunting, Dark Story Unfolds

The story follows a group of girls fighting to protect their world from the evil curses overtaking it. Fear mongering caused the girls to be labeled as “witches”. From there they began to be blamed for causing the chaos and destruction taking place in their world. But, despite being hunted as “witches”, they fight back and hold onto a small shred of hope for justice to prevail. The visual story that develops while playing MementoMori is spellbinding. It will capture you with its beautiful array of watercolor art design.

I found myself drawn into the pain and emotional turmoil of the girls as each step gave more explanation of their fight. The music and designs continue to play off the emotion pulled out and expand on it. The voices of each character drove home the pain and fear that they are experiencing. Yet, it was still conveying that spark of hope that will draw the player in more. The mix of darkness and light gives a perfect vibe that keeps you coming back. You will definitely want to see what else unfolds in the storyline as you continue playing.

Easy, Fast Paced, and Calming

The gameplay is so easy. It’s refreshing to not have a lot of confusing aspects to try to figure out. With MementoMori, the idle system it uses is perfect for those who want to play without a constant focus required. Even when you are not on the game, it continues battling, allowing you to keep gaining experience, gold, and items to level up the characters when you log into the game. There is no feeling of needing to rush through, no complicated level systems to try to figure out, or battle systems to learn. It just provides a great, calming type of gameplay that is there on your time and at your pace!

While there are pay options for the game to advance, they are not necessary to use them. I have enjoyed the free-to-play game just as it is! Another item to note, the game is a multiplayer game: it allows you to chat with others, join or create a guild, and interact with others in that manner. You can enhance your gear and level up the characters you wish, dividing up the level increase allowances between them. The auto-battle system makes things simple, and options to speed up the battle scenes are also very welcome additions that I found quite handy to have.

Somber and a Side of Hope Bring it Together

Overall, MementoMori provides a bewitching experience that is alluring both visually and auditorily. It combines a mix of both active gameplay with idle play that allows you to not get left behind, and a storyline that so far has been very compelling and engaging. There are some moments where the game has an error randomly and requires restarting, but they are not frequent enough to be an issue or disruptive with the gameplay.

Aside from those glitch moments, everything has been smooth and enjoyable. Between the beauty, music, auto-battles and idle play, MementoMori will have you looking forward to seeing what happens as the plot moves forward and the fight against injustice and the dark curses continues.
