Ghost Janitors, developed and published in November 2025 by Interactive Wave Studios, is a fun-filled horror adventure that will have you racing to clean up the haunt before the ghosts and evil entities that lurk kill you. While playing this game, I was screaming and jumping, desperately trying to complete my cleaning tasks! The game allows for solo play or as co-op with up to 4 people. Ghost Janitors gives laughs, jumps, screams and anxiety while trying to clean before going “missing”.

Note: It is a first-person viewpoint game, which may be difficult for some players.

Enter Cautiously and Prepare

Ghost Janitors offers 6 different anxiety-inducing haunts to clean. However, the game only unlocks the first 3 levels in the beginning. It also has an option to pick random haunts. There are 3 difficulty levels and a random option for that too. Someone who likes unexpected surprises will find that random mode is a good way to go. Ghost Janitors begins by putting the player(s) in the lobby. Pick your haunt and difficulty level in there by clicking on the clipboard located on the table. There are two large white boards in the lobby: one board contains tips and hints about each entity in the haunts, and the other to actually enter the haunt when ready.

Other items can be found around the lobby as well including a computer, couch, radio and cleaning cart. You can purchase items from the computer prior to entering the haunt. It is worth noting that some of the items purchasable are lost upon death. This creates a constant challenge to the game since players cannot just load up on “death pass” items to carry and use indefinitely. These temporary perks can be pricey and add up especially when they only last until death and need purchased again each time. The upgrades in the store though are permanent and last even after death. I will say that the ability to purchase uniforms and cosmetic items seemed a little pointless to me since the game is in first-person viewpoint.

Fear, Screams and Jump Scares

One of the most unnerving aspects of Ghost Janitors for me is seeing a ghost just standing there staring at me. Some of these ghosts stand there for what feels like forever. After several seconds, they either disappear or charge and come at the screen while screaming. I won’t lie – the latter still gives me more jump scares and screams than I’d like to admit despite knowing it’s going to happen! The ghost graphics are disturbing enough to cause nightmares, some of them more so than others. The jester was one of the most annoying ghosts, run if it’s dancing around. It loves jumping at the screen multiple times before coming in for the kill.

Only 3 lights can be on at a time, and while players stand under the light, the ghosts cannot harm them. They can still scare the hell out of you though! While that little safety blanket might seem like it makes the game easy by just light-hopping, it’s not that simple. There is a power generator somewhere in each haunt that powers all of the lights. The generator spawns in a different spot each game, and the ghosts will trip it to turn off all the lights randomly. This creates an instant panic-induced rush to try to find the generator to restore the safety of the lights.

Sometimes the generator is easy to spot. However, that is not always the case, and other times players are frantically searching for it. Plus, the generator takes several seconds to turn back on while standing in the darkness with no protections. With the generator back on, it’s a mad dash to find the nearest light and quickly turn it on.

Fun Perks With a Catch

Another challenge in the game is that the job cart with the task board is stationary as the entry point. This requires quickly running back to the cart constantly to check remaining tasks. The store does have a perk option to purchase a task board that can be carried. It is just a temporary perk though and is gone after death and needs to be rebought each time.

Another tricky aspect is with sweeping up trash. Ghost Janitors allows only one bag of trash to be carried at a time. This means you need to return to the garbage cans at the entry to toss the bag after each trash clean-up. While the store does have an option to purchase a perk to carry 2 trash bags at a time, the perk only lasts until death, just like the task board perk.

The store seemed to mostly offer cosmetic items, which gives off the vibe that the inclusion of it is more of a cash dump option rather than an actual utility. Though, it can provide some laughs and fun while playing with friends including mask options which can allow for moments of scaring each other. The temporary perks do come in handy if planning to try for any of the task challenges, such as not using any lights or flashlights. Aside from this, it was mostly the permanent upgrades that seemed to make the most sense to spend cash on starting out. Even they only provided some slight assistance while playing though, because none of them provided any death preventing benefit.

Overall, Ghost Janitors was a mix of anxiety, fear and anticipation to play. It didn’t matter how obvious an upcoming jump scare was, I found myself screaming, jumping and cussing every time! Laugh and scream with your friends while enjoying this little horror gem. In the end, Ghost Janitors is worth the price and provides a lot of interactive enjoyment especially when looking for a simple but scary game to play with friends.
