…yeah…trying to get over the fact that this title calls itself a “cozy horror” game, when that kind of sounds like an oxymoron…but we digress and move on. UK crew Kwalee has revealed today that its upcoming game Welcome to Elderfield will drop on September 10th on Steam. The game itself was made by a single man, Chris Cote, and he put a lot of hand-drawn work into making this title possible, fun, and yes, creepy. Want to see and hear more?
Here you go:
“Welcome to Elderfield is a cozy horror RPG where the abnormal is normal, the townsfolk are odd, the eldritch beings watch over you and the local news reports seem stranger by the day.
Everything in Elderfield is unsettling, from the haunting, horror manga-inspired, hand-drawn visuals to the dark, lofi soundscapes composed by Dated. Despite the strange creatures lurking just outside your home, those who wander into Elderfield rarely find a reason… or option, to leave.
Customize your home and character, unravel daily mysteries, befriend the odd townsfolk (or even marry one!), go fishing, spend your afternoons mining and forage through the surrounding wilds… There’s lots to do in Elderfield!”
One of the interesting elements of this game is that it can be as truly “cozy” as you wish it to be, or, you can crank up the difficulty and find yourself facing the “Old Gods.” It’s not a requirement to enjoy the game, but the option is there…for those who dare… Other features in the title include:
- Full RPG life sim with relationships, customization, fishing and more
- Hand drawn horror manga inspired artwork
- Dark lofi soundtrack by Dated
- Build your farm, manage animals, mine and forage to build resources
- Play on cozy mode or test your skills and resource building with in depth turn based combat
If you want a taste of the “cozy horror” to come, check out the demo! It’s not only a nice snapshot into the game and its world, but it’s got an “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating on Steam.
