If sci-fi movies are to be believed, once we start making colonies across the universe, we’ll spend just as much time…mucking things up and causing uprisings due to those in charge. Terra-7, by new studio Gamyeon, aims to be different, though. The colony sim is about not only expanding things on the new planet you’re on and mining resources, but also taking care of the workers who are doing all this harder labor. Huh, caring for the workers… What a concept! The game will release on Steam, and here is the breakdown and announcement trailer to check out:
“Set on the alien world of Terra-7, players grow a small pioneering outpost into a sprawling company. But
they get there by keeping workers fed, sheltered, and sane, not by grinding them down. Players hire employees to extract valuable alien minerals, process them into goods, and build increasingly complex production chains. They assign shifts, expand facilities, and balance efficiency with the needs of a growing workforce. However, employees are not just “human resources”. They have needs like hunger and sleep, while overwork, alien flora, and the pressures of a growing business all increase stress. While the player has ways to protect the employees from the alien flora, which reacts to the expanding colony, there’s no proper combat. Instead, at the end of each cycle, players must face a Performance Review.
Five Company Investors each evaluate the company’s performance, each with their own principles and philosophy: one favors rapid expansion or research, another employee welfare, and some others might just be interested in dividends. To keep the colony running, players need to satisfy at least three every cycle or lose investor trust. Lose all trust, and it’s game over.”
There’s plenty of work to do, but the question is HOW you’ll do it all to ensure that you keep happy workers, while pursuing greater goals. Do you think you can handle all of it? Here are some key features for the title to ponder as you consider your answer:
- Your employees come first — Employees must eat, sleep, and manage stress from overwork, alien flora attacks, and more.
- Answer to the Investors — Every cycle ends with a review from Company Investors, whose decisions can reward — or punish — how you’ve run things.
- Procedural biomes — Every map is procedurally generated, with multiple biomes planned for the full release.
- Easy to learn, hard to master — a clean UI and a limited set of Resources to keep the challenge in the decisions, not in parsing the screen.
