For many games, the success of it not only lies in how much sales the developer gets, but around the community that is built up for the title. Odd Dreams Digital and Secret Mode released Everything Is Crab in May of this year, and since then, they’ve been working with the community to bring new features and crab evolutions to the mix. To that end, Update 1.2 has now launched, and it features many additions and improvements, including a set of evolutions that the community itself inspired! You can check out the breakdown of it below:
“This update introduces new community-designed Evolutions and requested features such as mid-run saves, improvements for controller users, and more bug fixes and quality-of-life tweaks. Three new Evolutions designed by community members are now available to give Darwin a new lease on life.
Pedal Glands generate a slime trail that slows enemies and speeds Darwin up when travellingacross it, while Spinnerets drop a huge spiderweb behind Darwin with even more slowing power. Meanwhile, the Projectile Tongue shoots Darwin’s tongue out, piercing all enemies in its path and stunning the first creature it hits.
With new Evolutions comes new Specialisations. Try the Sticky Specialisation for the Projectile Tongue and pull yourself towards smaller enemies and items or drag bosses closer to you. Birth your own allies with the Spinnerets’ Egg Sac Specialisation, which spawns a baby Darwee (half Darwin, half Crawlee hybrid) to survive alongside you. And as a bonus, a new Dash Evolution called Jet has been added, which deploys secretions like the Pedal Glands slime trail and Spinnerets Spiderweb when used.”

This community-fueled update helps punctuate how well the roguelike title has done since launch. In that same press release about the update, the team noted that it’s sold over 600K since May, and more updates like this could lead to even more sales down the line, with many now knowing how much the community is involved in what happens next.
Everything is Crab is available on Steam for $9.99 USD.
