Sports games are interesting to talk about. Because if you think about the successes in the genre, you’d feel that EVERY major sports league has a game dedicated to their league, but that’s not actually true. Football, basketball, and soccer dominate the field, no pun intended, while others like tennis, golf, and even hockey only get certain games every once in a while. The team at Raccoon Logic didn’t like that, though, and at Gamescom, announced Breakaway Hockey League! This is a 4v4 multiplayer sports title that’ll drop on Steam down the line, and the goal was truly to “bring hockey gaming back to PC.” Want to know more before you lace up your ice skates? “Combining the skill and teamwork of modern multiplayer games with the intensity of hockey and the larger-than-life spectacle. Breakaway Hockey League is designed from the ground up as a competitive team-based experience for PC gamers, with players taking direct control of a single skater throughout five-minute, high-intensity matches built around teamwork, mechanical skill and hockey IQ. Every stride, deke, hit, pass and shot is driven by player input, while dynamic skating, precision shooting, purposeful passing, physical checking and realistic puck physics give players the tools to develop their own style of play.

Every Breakaway Hockey League match is built to produce highlight-reel moments worth sharing; dramatic breakaways, clutch saves, bone-rattling hits, last-second winners, and moments players can’t wait to clip and share. The result is a competitive hockey experience designed to generate dramatic breakaways, clutch saves, massive hits, game-winning goals and plenty of opportunities to chirp the opposition.”

While things like the release window weren’t revealed, the team did note that they’re going to have the community help them with their title throughout key development stages. That includes having special public playtests during Alpha and Beta stages. Then, they’ll head to Steam Early Access to further finesse the title.
