We’ve talked about Guns of Eschaton in the past and have noted that the game will blend several genres together to unleash a unique experience upon players. However, there was some question as to whether the game would arrive in 2026 as originally intended. Thankfully, the team at 4Divinity dropped a new co-op mode trailer today, and alongside it, reassurance that the Western game would drop in 2026. For more insight into the title, check out the official breakdown below:
“In Guns of Eschaton, every bullet counts — including the ones you don’t fire. Players must study whatever is trying to kill them, while never knowing quite enough to make the journey feel safe. Old-fashioned guns may replace swords, and a demonic train may replace a dragon, but the philosophy remains: understanding your opponent is just as important as mastering your own arsenal.
A deep progression and buildcrafting system gives players the freedom to develop their own approach to the apocalypse. Firearms, different ammunition types, occult abilities, talismans, armor, consumables, and active and passive skills can be combined into highly individual builds, creating different solutions to the challenges of the world. There is no single way to become a legendary gunslinger.
The apocalypse doesn’t have to be faced alone. Guns of Eschaton was designed as a solo-first experience, with co-op offering a different way to experience the journey and adding another layer of replayability. Playing together brings a new rhythm to the game, introducing different strategies and tactics for shared survival. The challenge and the story remain, but sharing the journey changes the experience.”
The team brought in some pretty famous people to shape not only the game’s story, but the worldbuilding itself. You might think you’re in the 19th century at first, but things are much different than you expect, which will make the journey through this “Wild West” all the more entertainment. Here are some other features of the game to be excited for:
- Every bullet counts: Face off in deliberate, high-stakes gunfights where preparation matters as much as aim. Study enemies through the Codex to uncover weaknesses, master precise timings and calculated parries, and wield mystic abilities granted by the occult.
- Build your legendary gunslinger: Create a playstyle of your own through deep character progression and flexible buildcrafting. Experiment with a vast arsenal of firearms, ammunition types, occult powers, talismans, armor, and consumables. Combine active and passive abilities, discover powerful synergies, and learn deadly tricks from legendary gunslingers.
- FPS gunplay meets Souls-like combat: Familiar principles from two established genres are rebuilt around one combat philosophy. Precision shooting, weapon mastery, enemy knowledge, resource management, timing, and buildcrafting come together to create an FPS where simply pulling the trigger is rarely the whole answer.
- Explore an occult apocalyptic West: Journey from East to West through an original world shaped by Viktor Antonov’s distinctive art direction. 19th-century frontier Americana collides with occult horror, mythology, religion, and the supernatural as the Old West burns in the apocalypse.
- Find your own way through the end times: Weapons, abilities, equipment, builds, exploration, and player choices allow different players to approach the world and its challenges in very different ways.
- Ride alone or together: Experience the complete journey solo or alongside an ally in co-op, with full progression allowing players to tackle the challenges of the dying world. Alone, it is a personal test of mastery.
While the game still doesn’t have a release date yet, you can pre-order it on Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox.
