The Little Crumb is an upcoming game that will be releasing in November 2026, but the demo is available to try out now on Steam! It was part of the Wholesome Games Celebration earlier this month. Developed and published by Luigi Platania, the demo is worth checking out for anyone who enjoys a good, cozy baking fun game. I found myself immediately adding it to my Wishlist on Steam after I reached the end.

It Begins with a Bakery

The Little Crumb takes place, of course, in a bakery! You run the shop under the watchful eye of your boss, and they are rather hands off. They give some tips and encouragement at the start of each new day before the bakery opens, but other than that, it’s up to you. The game begins with just a simple pretzel bread recipe. Each recipe requires the ingredients be placed into the mixer, then moved to the oven. Be careful to watch the cook time. You wouldn’t want to burn any food. The Little Crumb does recommend a console controller for the best gameplay experience; however, it was not difficult to play using a keyboard.

The characters are very cutesy, and the character creation has a decent selection on some aspects like hairstyles but felt lacking in other character creation aspects. This is just the demo version, which hopefully means there will be more options on the full release. Once in the game, it’s time to cook and prepare. Cook several of the menu items before opening the bakery. This helps to avoid delays in serving food to the customers and allows for a quick paced movement from customer to customer.

Cozy, Fun and Fast Moving

The bakery work day went by very quickly! It does bring up questions on if the “work day” is moving so fast because it is a demo, or if this is the pace of the full game. Honestly, there were times that it almost felt like the work day ended too quickly. The daily recap would come as a sudden surprise, leaving the shop with several prepared goods unsold. One aspect to note is that The Little Crumb did not appear to have an “aging” system on those items. This meant they could be sold the next day without any issue or customer complaints. However, there was also trash bin to dispose of food no longer needed. It did appear the food could burn based on the cooking timer if left in the oven too long.

The register had several items to purchase for the bakery. This included cooking ingredients and shop decor. The decor would offer perks like increased traffic and customer patience. Customers can have low patience for long waits for their baked goods. They leave if they wait for more than a few moments for service. The decor to increase patience definitely helps in that aspect, especially when having to tend to several customers at once. Customers eat quickly, but there are only 4 seats, so a fast clean-up is a must! Sweeping up behind the counter is another task in between cooking and bringing out food.

Baking Away the Day

The menu board has the options to select for the daily menu. It works well to select the menu before the doors open, and see what items bring in more currency. With the menu ready to go, the cooking begins! It’s best to precook several of each menu item before opening the shop. The counter space is limited and was something to be aware of while cooking items ahead of opening the shop. Once the shop is open, the first customer enters and gives their order. From that point, it is essentially running back and forth between taking orders, serving the food, cleaning and cooking.

Overall, The Little Crumb was a highly enjoyable demo, and I look forward to seeing what the full version offers upon release! I found myself sad to reach the end of the demo so quickly and I am eager to play the full version in November.
