We’ve talked plenty about playtests and demos in the past, as they are used by teams like Bad Plan Studios to help test their titles before it’s time to fully release them. Between that team and Rising Tide, End of Ember has been on a tear on Steam via its own playtest. The twin-stick shooter has you fighting a bloody battle against demons…while also not being afraid to gross you out as you do all of this. Seriously, it’s not for anyone who is squeamish. Anyway, the teams have announced that the game’s playtest will end on December 6th, so you’ll want to dive in while the action is hot!
“Super cute, super gory, and totally unhinged: End of Ember is a horror-inspired twin-stick roguelite that will make you spew chunks of happiness all over your dad.
Ember is sent to Hell by mistake on her birthday. Her ally is Abe, a talking chainsaw-gun powered by hatred. Clear rooms of demons, collect teeth to spend at the shop, and use hatred to turn Abe into other weapons. Cursed items upgrade your guns and bombs before the next boss fight.”
You have to admire when developers aren’t afraid to show how unhinged they are, right? Plus, the game is paying tribute to other twin-stick titles of the past, so you can also admire them cranking things up to 11 to make their game stand out:
- Twin-stick combat through rooms of demons and traps.
- Weapon mutation: spend hatred at a Mutator to change Abe’s weapon form.
- Cursed items that upgrade guns and bombs.
- Teeth to spend on weapons, bombs and items.
- Grotesque bosses and graphic cartoon gore.
So, if you’re up to the challenge, dive into the playtest today and see what carnage you can unleash!
