It’s always interesting to see classic stories get retold in ways that were never intended when the author first penned them. In the case of a certain Alice and her journey through Wonderland, there have been multiple iterations, including in video games. However, the FURYU CORPORATION decided to take that concept, flip it on its head, fill it with anime girls, and then make them fight blood battles. Welcome to CRYMELIGHT, which is out right now on PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2, with a Steam version coming out later. Don’t know what to make of all this? Well, check out this trailer and synopsis then:
“CRYMELIGHT blends fast-paced combat and dramatic storytelling for a new adventure following “Alice,” a young girl with no memory of her real identity, trapped in a mysterious prison for the souls of the dead, forced to participate in a “Killing Game” that tasks her with defeating enemies, confessing the sins she inherits and turning them into powerful upgrade materials and confronting her own sins if she truly wants to regain her freedom and memories.
The newest installment in the “CRY” series offers a novel approach to roguelike combat thanks to mechanics like the “Wonder Dimension” which increases combat intensity as Alice defeats more enemies, along with a “Poker System” that lets players build a five-card hand of unique and powerful abilities to experiment with.”
So, with so much going on in this roguelike adventure, you really should just jump in and experience it for yourself! What could possibly go wrong? …right?
