We’re always interested in hearing what inspires certain video game developers to make the games they want to make. Inspiration comes from anywhere and everywhere; it only needs to resonate with you to make something happen. So, when Acclaim Inc. revealed they were teaming up with a crew to make a title inspired by a 1990s Nickelodeon kids show? Yeah, that got our attention, and the result of that inspiration is the roguelike shooter called Die or Die. The title will drop on Steam next year, and we have the reveal trailer and synopsis below:
“Die or Die is an action roguelike where you run, shoot, and dodge through five worlds on your way to the coast. Wipe out enemies to move to the next level. Collect dice to build your run with abilities and super weapons, or use them to get rid of bummers, which make each level harder.
Lil’ Demon is tired of the city, tired of driving a taxi, tired of all of it. He needs a vacation, but life has other ideas. Every run you take him through starts from scratch, so the only thing that gets stronger is you.
Every die is a decision. Every death is your fault.”
Seems pretty wild, wouldn’t you say? But it gets even wilder when you check out the key features:
- Roll the Dice – Dice are everything in Die or Die. Spend them to activate crazy abilities, buy super weapons, or destroy bummers. Your rolls shape your build, your approach to each level, and even the layout of the level itself. So many options, so few dice!
- Beware the Bummers – This isn’t your run-of-the-mill roguelike.
- Bummers crank up the difficulty: suddenly enemies are HUGE, they shoot other enemies, you move at half speed, the floor is lava, and it’s raining meteors! Each bummer has it’s own requirement to destroy, so be ready for anything!
- Build or Bust – Every die spent clearing bummers is one you can’t put toward abilities or the store. Will you wipe out every bummer, or save your luck for a strong, reliable build?
- Five Worlds to Conquer – Fight your way to the coast across five worlds riddled with enemies, hazards, and dangers.
- Run, Shoot, Dodge – Clear every enemy from each level to move on to the next. Luck gets you started, but skill keeps you alive.
Death is a guarantee in this game, but that’s part of the fun! So, if you feel like giving this game a roll when it finally drops, wishlist it now!
