There are some things that just “feel right,” wouldn’t you agree? And in the case of vampires, they’re often portrayed as monsters that need to be put down, especially after they’ve hurt someone you’ve cared about. In the case of Mimyr Games, they’re prepping to release their tactical card battler The Vow: Vampire’s Curse next year. Before that, though, they’ve dropped an updated demo for you to see what this roguelike strategy game is all about. Can you last through the near-endless nights to get back the one you love from the vampires’ grip? The demo will help you find that out!
“Players take on the role of Sir Richard, a righteous knight whose wedding to his beloved Eleanor is brutally interrupted by the vampire lord Arnaud. When Richard is killed trying to protect her, he is mysteriously brought back to life, changed in ways he does not yet understand. Driven by his determination to reach Arnaud’s castle and rescue Eleanor, Sir Richard sets out on a dangerous journey. Yet the path ahead is far from straightforward, and death is only the beginning.
Sir Richard’s journey unfolds across a repeating seven-day cycle, with each day bringing new opportunities to prepare for the dangers ahead. During daylight, players develop and upgrade villages, unlock new effects, place defensive obstacles and assign villagers and allies to help withstand the coming attacks.
When night falls, the game shifts into tactical, card-driven combat as waves of vampires and their thralls descend on the village. Here, positioning is everything. Push enemies into hazards, pull them towards traps, block their paths with fences or
crash them into obstacles and each other.”
So, as you can see, the game has a lot of depth, and that speaks also to the new demo itself. This one has an improved vibe over the previous one, and here’s what you can expect from it:
- A Reworked Introduction: A new animated intro has been added to better introduce Sir Richard’s story and the events behind his curse.
- Card-Based Daytime Gameplay: The daytime experience has been reworked to incorporate a card-based system, expanding the strategic choices available to players.
- Improved Tutorial: A revised tutorial makes it easier to understand the game’s mechanics and get to grips with its different systems.
- Reworked Card Upgrades: The card upgrade system has been redesigned, and new cards have been introduced to improve progression and deck customisation
- Enhanced Boss Encounters: Existing bosses have received further gameplay improvements and additional animations to make encounters more engaging
